“All of us here today do not want to see our election victory stolen by emboldened radical-left Democrats, which is what they’re doing. And stolen by the fake news media. That’s what they’ve done and what they’re doing. We will never give up, we will never concede. It doesn’t happen. You don’t concede when there’s theft involved.”

This quote was taken directly from President Trump’s “Save America” speech on January 6, 2021. The speech looked to address the supposed “stealing of the election” but took a deadly turn as a large mob of Trump supporters who attended the event moved to break their way into the US Capitol Building, mere hours after the speech.

The event resulted in the deaths of five people; one being a Capitol police officer while the other four were insurgents. The glaring pictures of combat being waged on the steps of the Capitol has created shock waves around the world. A week after Trump’s speech, the House of Representatives voted to impeach the President. During his speech, Trump repeatedly claimed that the election had been subject to fraud due to mail-in ballots, while also inviting his audience to go to the Capitol building where lawmakers were counting electoral college votes to confirm Joe Biden’s victory.

“Anyone you want, but I think right here, we’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women, and we’re probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them.”

The riot lasted from around 1 to 5 pm on Jan 6th, as about 1,100 members of the DC National Guard were mobilized to help local law enforcement deter the rioters. After many hours of struggle between law enforcement and rioters, President Trump tweeted a video.

“I know your pain. I know you’re hurt. We had an election that was stolen from us. It was a landslide election and everyone knows it, especially the other side. But you have to go home now. We have to have peace. We have to have law and order. … So go home. We love you, you’re very special. … I know how you feel. But go home and go home in peace.

Shortly after this tweet, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms issued suspensions on the President’s accounts because of a failure to condemn the riots, his continued accusations of election fraud, and his broadcasting of misinformation.

Several people who participated in the Capitol riot have since been arrested and are currently under investigation. We will continue to monitor this unprecedented situation as it progresses.
